Best Kindle Cover
How am I going to find the right kindle cover for me? This has been the question that has been on my mind since I opened my Christmas gift and found a brand new Kindle 3. You might think that this is an easy task since there are literally hundreds of kindle covers out there ranging from a few dollars to a hundred. And when you factor in the material of choice from plastic to leather to fabric to neoprene you find yourself faced with a monumental though perhaps extremely enjoyable task.
The first choice would be to go old school and from all the kindle covers out there you could choose the original Amazon Leather Kindle Cover. It is the one that the manufacturers at Kindle 3 offer with their product. And at $ 30 it is an acceptable price, given the offer at hand. Its leather covers, hard back, clipped hinge mechanism to keep the kindle in place are all good pros and make this a simple choice for your kindle cover.
But is it the right one for me? When going for the classic you usually don’t care much about originality or about expressing your personality. So I looked around some more and found that the some other great choices out there for kindle covers are the M-Edge Go!, the Tuff Luv Leather Kindle covers and the top of the line Cole Haan Leather Covers. I was very reluctant to switch from my dear old habit of picking out a book out of the library and just having a read to having this fancy gadget, no pages, just electronic words on an electronic skin so I prefer to at least keep the feel of a real book in my hand which you can only have now through a leather cover. So no matter the choice I was sure I would keep with leather for my kindle covers.
One of my dearest choices was the Tuff Luv Kindle Covers. They keep with the leather tradition but their hand stitched exterior and life time warranty quickly pulled me in as a fan. They have about the same price and the offer a wider range of colors. You can choose between the book style jacket and the flip stand… no question here as to which I prefer. They shut properly so I have no fear that other stuff in my backpack will slip in between the reader and the kindle covers and scratch everything.
The disadvantage however is that this type of kindle covers do tend to be on the bulky side, while the M-Edge GO! Kindle Jackets are lightweight and easier to use. They are not exactly leather but a micro fiber leather like material which honestly I think will be able to stand more wear and tear the natural stuff. And let’s not forget that this kindle covers come in a great range of colors. However there is nothing holding the cover in place over the reader so I’m betting somewhere down the line I’ll have something like the hard edge of my pen or just the change I constantly have rattling around in my back pack will slip in and put nasty scratch on my screen despite my fancy colored kindle covers.
My last choice would have been the Cole Haan Hand-Stained Pebble Grain Leather Kindle Cover which are great indeed and the feel of that leather is like nothing you’ve ever felt. Makes me think of the posh Freddy Mercury and his “So tree charmant, my dear” line in Sea Side Randez Vous but putting Mr. Mercury aside the price alone made me have second thoughts and when I saw that these kindle covers don’t have a secure way to fasten the jackets I decided to just leave it as a choice of a birthday gift for a friend or other that would be out of ideas.
So to sum up leather, fancy leather and some microfiber leather like stuff, for my kindle covers: which way to go? I still haven’t made up my mind but I still have a couple of weeks until my skiing trip so I will get back to you then to let you know what was my personal choice for my kindle covers.
